Last year I ordered our Christmas Tree online and it was rubbish. It was a 5ft Nordman Fir (supposedly with non-drop needles) which was too short and was wider than it was tall, so it filled half the room. Half the needles had fallen off by the time I’d decorated it.
This time I decided to choose one myself. I live in Fulham and there are plenty of places selling trees, the most expensive has to be Elizabeth King (£50 for a 6 ft one). In the end I got a fabulous looking 6ft Nordman Fir (British-grown and non-drop) from The Green Elves, run by Lottie and Guy, who have a base at Jazz Flowers, on the Wandsworth Bridge Road. They delivered three to our house and we picked the one we liked the most. It’s a beautiful deep green colour, the perfect height and shape, and not too bushy. My 2 year old did a great job of helping me decorate (I changed things around a bit once she went to bed). It just needs some presents around it now.
Top tips for picking the perfect tree:
1) Make sure you get one that’s the right height for the room, otherwise it can look silly. It should be a few inches from the ceiling. You might need to add on a few inches if you have a base.
2) Bear in mind, the higher the tree, the wider it might be.
3) Be eco-friendly and get a live tree. If not, get one that is replaced once it is picked.
4) Nordman Firs are the best and have non-drop needles, that should last until well after Christmas.
5) Ask to see the tree out of it’s net, if possible, to check the shape and quality.
6) Keep water in the base to stop it drying out (as the needles will drop).
7) If it’s positioned near a radiator or other heat source, turn it off.
Take to a recycling point once Christmas is over.

We are venturing out to buy our tree this weekend… I shall take note of your tips
